Is WiMax a threat to 3G...!!

WiMax or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access seems to be catching up fast. Named as cousin of Wi-fi, this technology is promising and will give complete mobility for broadband user on move.
With subscribers in Indian crossing 100m mark and teledensity of 9.26%(as on April 05) ,its time India should look forward to 3G.
But the question remains....can they emerge parallel in India??

Well, 3G will still have the edge because of the great advantage it has in terms of providing mobility within a wide area of coverage. WiMAX will give a real opportunity to new and incumbent telecom operators, who do not have a mobility network in place, to start one at comparatively low cost and ensure that they do not lose out too much in the ongoing fixed to mobile substitution in telecoms traffic.
At the end of the day, people have “needs” (make calls, check emails, watch movies, play games). Increasingly the restrictions on “where” and “how” you can fulfil those needs will disappear.

I still feel Indian market is little immature for data and with ARPU going down evry quarter, we need to look in for alternative way of increasing it.
One way could be the path of MVNOs...
wats MVNO??
watch out this space for more.............
